Centenary University’s Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies will provide students with a comprehensive background in the care and management of horses. As an Equine Studies major, students will have the opportunity to choose from one or more of the following degrees: Equine Studies; Equestrian Media and Public Relations; Equine Business Management; Equine Training & Instruction; Equine Science; Animal Health (Pre-Vet Track); Equine Studies Minor in conjunction with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Therapeutic Riding at Centenary (TRAC) is a PATH Intl Premier Accredited Center located on-site at our nationally-recognized Equestrian Center. Both degree-track undergraduates and continuing education students are encouraged to enroll in immersive, hands-on academic and practicum courses related to therapeutic riding instruction, the broader field of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT), and EAAT center management. Available courses provide education relevant to completing requirements for the Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) application and preparation for the CTRI examination.

Students enrolled in our complete Instructor Training Course will have the opportunity to fulfill all CTRI application requirements, including recording a teaching video and completing 25 supervised teaching hours. Contact us to discuss your certification and EAAT-industry goals!

The UNH Equine Program combines award-winning equestrian teams with strong academics and outstanding opportunities for hands-on learning, including on-site PATH International Premier Accredited Operating Center which give students real-world experience in the equine industry.

The program includes:
• Three courses of study in the B.S. Program: Equine Industry Management, Therapeutic Riding and Equine Science.
• A.A.S. in Equine Management
• Hands-on classes in horse care, stable management, equine sports medicine, conformation & lameness, horse trials management, training, riding instruction, equine assisted activities and therapies, and reproductive management.
• PATH Intl. Registered level instructor certification done on site within curriculum.
• Riding program in dressage and eventing
• Two successful equestrian teams: the 2009 National Champion IDA Team and 2011, 2012 & 2013  Regional Champion IHSA Team.
• PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Therapeutic Riding Program located on campus.
• USEA/USEF recognized Horse Trials and USDF/USEF Recognized Dressage Shows

Associates of Applied Science in Equine Studies  

The Associate in Applied Science degree in Equine Studies is designed to prepare students to seek enjoyment and employment as trained professionals in the equine industry. Our objective is to provide each student the opportunity to develop skills and expertise in the areas of riding instruction, therapeutic riding, farm management and business, pre-animal science, and pre-veterinary technology.

The Equine Studies degree will provide education and training to prepare students to enter the vast equine industry. The program offers core courses to assist students in forming a solid foundation in the basics of equine studies. Students may select from specialized tracks or concentrations to specifically tailor the program to their needs and interests. Courses combine lectures and laboratory work. Lectures are to inform the students of related equine information and skills with labs providing opportunities to apply the knowledge.

The program is located at the Ohio Horse Park, a 180-acre University owned facility. The Ohio Horse Park includes two indoor arenas, two outdoor arenas, and boarding for student horses. A student managed veterinary clinic is also part of the Ohio Horse Park. The Ohio University Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship is a nationally accredited center serving the needs of the local community. Students actively instruct participants, evaluate and train horses and work administratively to assist in managing the center.

Isothermal Community College is offering Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy (EAAT) courses in higher education. The EAAT courses are offered through two AAS Degree programs, as electives in an Equine Business degree, or as a major in a Human Services Technology: Animal Assisted degree. Upon completion of 5 courses students will receive a certificate in Therapeutic Horsemanship from the college, which will also prepare students for certifications through PATH Intl.

The Equine Business degree prepares individuals to manage the selection, breeding, care, and maintenance of work, athletic, show and/or therapeutic horses; and to manage horse farms, stables, or equine assisted-activity therapeutic centers, and related equipment and operations.

The Human Services Technology: Animal Assisted Interactions prepares individuals to incorporate specially-select equine, in goal-directed interactions to help individuals with mental and physical disabilities, social, emotional support, and/or improve cognitive functioning in people.

The University of Delaware Equine Science Minor offered by the Department of Animal and Food Sciences includes courses in Equine Nutrition, Management, Forage Management, and Diseases and Lameness, targeting students interested in Equine Science from across the University. Our Equine Therapeutics program provides an interdisciplinary curriculum, combining expertise from Education (Disabilities Studies) and Health Sciences (Behavior Health) with our Equine Science courses to present a rigorous academic foundation tailored to each student’s career goals. Our program leverages the UD Webb Farm, part of a 350-acre demonstration farm with best practice pasture management, equine classroom and stable facility and a small herd of teaching horses. In collaboration with PATH premier accredited center Therapeutic Riding and Ongoing Training (TROT) at nearby Carousel Park and Equestrian Center, students gain academic coursework, hands-on horsemanship, teaching and volunteer experience to complete their PATH Intl. Registered Instructor Certification.

The therapeutic horsemanship major allows students to focus on therapeutic horsemanship instruction or program administration with special attention to best practices in delivering therapeutic horsemanship to equestrians with special needs. Students benefit by a practical internship as well as hands on experience with the onsite therapeutic horsemanship classes for community riders.
