Past PATH Intl. Award Winner to Speak at Luncheon
Denver—Change. We all deal with it daily, both personally and professionally, but what happens when you are diagnosed with a life-altering condition? Much like any disruption, there are ways to process it in order to move forward. You can pull the covers over your head and hope it all goes away. Or you can understand it, accept it and embrace it in order to find happiness and continue to do what brings passion to your life.
Cara E. Yar Khan personally understands change and disruption. At the age of 30, she was diagnosed with a rare muscle wasting condition; but she uses this struggle as a source of strength. Cara will be the keynote speaker at the PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting, presented by title sponsor Purina, November 8-11, 2017, in San Antonio, TX.
Born in India and raised in Canada, Cara has spent most of the past 15 years working with the humanitarian agencies of the United Nations, especially UNICEF, and was stationed in 10 different countries, including two years in both Angola and Haiti. Today Cara is the CEO of her own company, RISE Consulting, advocating for the world's most marginalized and vulnerable people.
Cara was the 2015 PATH Intl. Adult Equestrian of the Year and dove into therapeutic riding with the same energetic spirit she brings to all her endeavors, demanding excellence of herself and others, facing challenges head on. “It makes me want to get out there so people can see a young woman with a disability who is fully engaged in life,” she said about riding.
Porsche North America and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights awarded Cara the 2015 Driving Force Award, which recognizes women who exemplify the spirit of activism and community engagement at the local and/or global level. Driving force, indeed. Barrie Landry, national board member for US Fund for UNICEF, said, “Cara is my hero.”

The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International® (PATH Intl.®) was formed in 1969 to promote safety and optimal outcomes in equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) for individuals with special needs. At 877 member centers, more than 62,400 children and adults, including 5,500 veterans, may find improved health, wellness and a sense of pride, independence and fun through involvement with horses. Therapeutic horsemanship at member centers may include hippotherapy, equine-facilitated mental health, driving, interactive vaulting, trail riding, competition, ground work and stable management.
