PATH Intl. Past President
Pat Mullins, PATH Intl. CEO Kathy Alm, CHA CEO Christy Landwehr and
PATH Intl. Certified Registered Instructor Joanne Hart had dinner at
the Red Fox Inn and Tavern in Middleburg, VA, last week during the
American Horse Council Meeting. The Red Fox Inn is where the founding
meeting for NARHA took place. We are proud of where the founders'
dreams have taken us over the last 46 years!

Fun
Center Videos Needed for Conference Contest
|
|
In just a few weeks, we will open
registration for the 2015 PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting,
sponsored by Purina, in Cleveland, OH, November 4-7. A hard copy
registration booklet and form will be in the summer issue of PATH Intl.
Strides, so watch your mail.
We're holding a contest for the
most original and fun videos our centers can offer.
Show conference attendees the great time had by all at your center. The
conference host committee will judge and select the top two or three to
show at the awards banquet on Friday, November 6. We aren't looking for
promotional videos at this time, but rather the videos that highlight
your center's staff, instructors, participants and equines having a
great time. Click here for an
example from The Pegasus Project Therapeutic Riding Center in
Yakima, WA. There's still a lot of time to record something for this
center video contest.
Email your videos
to Cher Smith or email her for Dropbox instructions. For
larger video files, mail a CD or flashdrive. Note: We need the actual
video, not a YouTube or Vimeo link. Submissions must be
sent by September 1 to allow time for judging. Please include a photo/video
release form with submission.
Scholarships
If you or someone
you know needs a registration scholarship to attend the conference,
remember that the deadline to submit a scholarship application is this
Friday, June 20. Click
here for information.
Silent Auction
The PATH Intl.
Silent Auction has already received items that will ensure exciting and
competitive bidding. If you have an item you would like to donate to
the auction or to the always-popular region baskets, contact Tammi Gainer, the Silent Auction Chair, or download
a silent auction donation form.
Exhibiting at
the Conference
Do you have a
product equine professionals would be interested in purchasing?
Educational materials, books, videos and jewelry are all great
possibilities for selling to the 800+ therapeutic horsemanship professionals
we expect to see at the 2015 PATH Intl. Conference, November 4-7, in
the rock and roll capitol of the world, Cleveland, OH. 96% of
conference survey respondents said they will contact one or more
exhibitors. Exhibiting pays off!
For more information, email Cher Smith or call her at
(800) 369-7433, ext. 123.
Hotel Name
Change
The conference
host hotel is changing its name from Renaissance Cleveland Hotel to
Hotel Cleveland, effective July 1. In a few days, the old reservation
system and 800 reservation phone number will no longer work.
Reservations will be down for a few days as the hotel makes the
transition. When they are operational again, we will receive a new
hotel reservation link and reservation phone number. Reservations that
have already been made will be transferred to the new system.

Equine
Tip From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
|
|
Keep
Learning
Jayna Wekenman,
PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member
Have you ever talked with someone that describes their horses as
"happy" or "good"? Then in conversation you learn
that one horse bites his leaders, another excessively "rests,"
another digs trenches in the paddock from pacing, and the vet frequently
visits for a range of stress-related conditions. Overall, the herd may
seem "happy" or "good," yet holistic well-being for
individual equines falls short.
One of the greatest gifts we can give our equines toward emotional and
physical welfare is our ability to keep learning. Read
more
The PATH Intl.
Equine Welfare Committee is making a commitment to refine and deepen our
perspective of equine well-being to include the physical, mental and
emotional well-being of our wonderful four-legged partners. Join us on
this journey. Please add your thoughts on the PATH Intl. Community
Connections page. It is our desire that these tips start a further
discussion on Community Connections. Any thoughts? We appreciate hearing
from you!

Lara Oles, the 2011
PATH Intl. Independent Adult Equestrian. Lara, along with her mare Bella,
earned qualifying scores while showing at the Golden State Dressage
Classic in Rancho Murieta, California earlier this month. The pair took
two firsts and a second with scores of 69% in the Grade III Team Test,
67% in the Grade III Individual Test and 69% in the Freestyle. They are
now eligible to compete for a slot on the 2016 United States Paralympic
Equestrian Team.
Para-Dressage riders from all over the United States will be vying for
four slots on the Paralympic Team. "This was our first International
show, and I am very happy with our results. Over the next year as Bella
and I develop our partnership and skills, I think we will be even more
competitive. I am excited for our future!"
Follow Lara on
Facebook. Way to go, Lara, and good luck!

Webinar:
Voting on Field Test Standards
|
|
Reminder:
Voting on the field test standards will be handled electronically rather
than at the PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting. The first
electronic vote, which has been approved by Programs and Standards
Oversight Committee and the Strategic Initiatives Review Committee, will
take place July 1st through 14th.
As PATH Intl. continues to grow, we want to take advantage of every
opportunity, including social media and electronic means, to listen to
and keep in touch with our members. An electronic vote gives every member
a chance to participate and will provide a greater level of transparency
by the association to its members.
A FREE 30-minute
informational webinar presented by the Standards Task Force on three
standards currently in field test is available now.
