Instructor Compliance CEU Requirements
|
|
PATH Intl. is
pleased to announce the revision of our annual instructor compliance
and continuing education requirements. On April 1st, a new compliance
form with revised continuing education requirements was debuted for a
beta test period continuing through June. Based on feedback received
from the membership regarding the relevancy and practicality of the new
requirements, PATH Intl. will be reviewing the form and requirements
for a second time before launching the finalized form on July 1st. In
order to allow members ample time to familiarize themselves with the
new requirements, the
new form will not be required for annual instructor compliance until
January 1, 2016.
Until that time, PATH Intl. Certified Instructors will have a choice of
which compliance requirements to follow, by submitting either the 2014
compliance form OR
the 2015 compliance form. Please note that you will be required to meet
the compliance requirements stated on the compliance form you submit.
PATH Intl. will accept both forms through 2015 to accommodate those who
have been earning continuing education hours this past membership year.
PATH Intl. Certified Instructors who hold specialty certifications
(Driving, Interactive Vaulting, ESMHL) should follow the continuing
education requirements listed on the compliance form submitted.
To learn more about the new requirements, please visit our CEU
Guidelines page and view the FAQs by logging into your "My
Instructor Membership" account.

In the Spotlight
This month's featured post comes from the EAL Community and includes a
new resource that can be downloaded.
I
just got asked to share something I had posted last year about the
activities I used in a summer EAL program that had a focus on social
skills and of course fun for children 9 and under. So I'm re-posting it
with samples of 2 very different types of learning assessments that I
used.
I
would love to learn about what others in this group use for their
lesson plans, activities, and assessments for capturing whether
participants grasped they skills and concepts. I know we work with a
wide variety of populations and skills, but am betting that we can all
learn something from each other.
Read
the responses and join in the discussion!

Equine
Tip From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
|

Building
Resilience in Our Equines
Christina Russell,
PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member
The last weekend in April marked a notable event in the field of
animal-assisted therapy, the 2015 Human Animal Interaction Conference.
This conference is dually hosted every other year by The Sam and Myra
Ross Institute at Green Chimneys School and the Denver University
Graduate School of Social Work. Approximately 250 participants from all
over the world come together to share with one another best practices for
incorporating animals and people in therapeutic environments. Each
conference has a theme, and this year the focus was enhancing and
supporting the development of resilience in children who have experienced
trauma. Read

The PATH Intl.
Equine Welfare Committee is making a commitment to refine and deepen our
perspective of equine well-being to include the physical, mental and
emotional well-being of our wonderful four-legged partners. Join us on
this journey. Please add your thoughts on the PATH Intl. Community
Connections page. It is our desire that these tips start a further
discussion on Community Connections. Any thoughts? We appreciate hearing
from you!

PATH
Intl. Position on Backriding
|
|
After extensive research
and member input, in continued pursuit of excellence for best practices
and safety of both riders and equines, PATH Intl. has released the
following statement regarding the practice of Backriding. Backriding does
NOT include tandem hippotherapy, led by a licensed therapist.
Due
to the increased risk of injury to the equine, the backrider, sidewalkers
and the participant, backriding is not recommended to be used in
therapeutic horsemanship programs.
Click
here to view the full statement, background information and learn how
this position might affect your center. As of 2016, Backriding Guidelines will no longer be
included in the PATH
Intl. Standards for Certification and Accreditation.

Webinar:
Voting on Field Test Standards
|
|
Reminder:
Voting on the field test standards will be handled electronically rather
than at the PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting. The first
electronic vote, which has been approved by Programs and Standards
Oversight Committee and the Strategic Initiatives Review Committee, will
take place July 1st through 14th.
As PATH Intl. continues to grow, we want to take advantage of every
opportunity, including social media and electronic means, to listen to
and keep in touch with our members. An electronic vote gives every member
a chance to participate and will provide a greater level of transparency
by the association to its members.
A FREE 30-minute
informational webinar presented by the Standards Task Force on three
standards currently in field test is available now.
