Equipment Funding Opportunity

On September 29, 2014, PATH Intl. was one of 69 grant awardees from the United States Department of Veteran's Affairs to support veterans in adaptive sports.

Thanks to this grant, for the period of March 1, 2015 to August 1, 2015, PATH Intl. will provide $7,500 in reimbursements for the purchase of equipment to support Veterans and Armed Services Members participating in equine-assisted activities and therapies at PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Centers.

Criteria to Apply
*    A center must be a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in good standing.
*    Funding must be used for the purchase of equipment for Veterans and/or Armed Services Members (VSM) programing.
*   The approved reimbursement forms to PATH Intl. must be received by July 1, 2015, after the equipment is purchased.
*    If the center's application is accepted, a signed center agreement form must be submitted.

Equipment Funding Delivery Information and Reporting Requirements
As a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center with a PATH International Equine Services for Heroes program and upon application approval, a center will be eligible to receive up to $2,500 to purchase equipment necessary to provide services to Veterans and/or Armed Services Members.

Allocations of $2,500 (1 award), $1,000 (3 awards) and $500 (4 awards) will be awarded to a minimum of eight centers as  reimbursement for the purchase of equipment for providing services to Veterans and/or Armed Services Members. Funds will be allocated until the $7,500 is expended.

Funding awards may be used toward a portion of a larger equipment purchase (e.g., a lift or ramp). Equines are not considered equipment.

Upon approval, PATH Intl. will provide a reimbursement form for  center personnel to complete for reimbursement of the equipment purchased.

Scoring and Acceptance Process
*    Applications will be accepted until January 24, 2015.
*    A committee panel will score each application.
*    A representative from the PATH Intl. office will notify the center representative if their application was accepted for the award by February 11, 2015.

Application Process
The application is to be completed and submitted electronically using this form.

If you have questions, email Stefani Viktora-Anderson or call her at (800) 369-7433, ext. 104.

American Morgan Horse Association Therapy Horse of the Year

Congratulations to Peaches N' Mae for being named the Therapy Horse of the Year by the American Morgan Horse Association. Peaches N' Mae's owner is Jayne Bradford, a PATH Intl. Certified Registered Instructor in Hammond, WI. Click here to read about this amazing horse!

"I'm so privileged to have this horse in my life, and grateful to PATH  Intl. for the education and certification that adds to our credibility," Jayne said. "In addition to everything mentioned in the nomination it is significant to note that largely because of this little horse and all she has taught us, my husband and I are transitioning our program (Elysium Equestrian) to become a PATH Intl. Member Center this year."

Congratulations Jayne and Peaches N' Mae!

New PATH Intl. Grievance Filing Process

The PATH Intl. Quality Assurance Task Force was assembled to address professional ethics, professional discipline, conflicts of interest, grievances and appeals to determine and implement best practices in testing and training in association governance and in the stewardship of our members. The task force announces a new grievance filing process.

The policy states PATH Intl. Members will be subject to a fair and reasonable disciplinary and expulsion procedure to be carried out in good faith, effective January 1, 2015.

To learn about the PATH Intl. Grievance Review Panel, who may file a grievance, how to file a grievance and how the process will work, click here for more information. Questions should be directed to Sam Albrecht, PATH Intl. Director of Programs and membership.

All workshop, travel, lodging and meal costs for warriors will be funded by WWP.

Equine Tips

Seeing In Pictures
By Cathy Languerand, Chairperson, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Visualization to me means holding a picture in my mind's eye. By creating an awareness of your thoughts, you are able to picture what you want to happen next as if it has happened. For example: pick up a rhythmical trot, bend through the corner and trot toward the opposite corner. Picture in your head what this looks like. It would look different if your only thought was "go faster." Read more ...

The PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee is making a commitment to refine and deepen our perspective of equine well-being to include the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our wonderful four-legged partners. Join us on this journey. Please add your thoughts on PATH Intl. Community Connections page. It is my desire that these tips start a further discussion on Community Connections. Any thoughts? We appreciate hearing from you!
