PATH Intl. in Leading the Way
|
|
PATH Intl. is leading the way this
spring! As horses, centers and members shake off their winter coats and
begin the hard and rewarding work of changing lives through therapeutic
horsemanship, PATH Intl. is promoting the industry to new audiences
such as associations of nurses and doctors; working to update its
education delivery to a web-based, available anytime, anywhere model;
and creating the systems to ensure the quality of our 850 centers for
our 8,000+ PATH Intl. members, 7,500 equine partners and 56,000+
participants at PATH Intl. Centers.
Please donate today so
PATH Intl. remains your
voice, ensuring that therapeutic horsemanship continues to get the
global recognition it has received in recent years. By giving to PATH
Intl., you help your center and yourself by increasing the
professionalism of the equine-assisted activities and therapies
industry.

help PATH Intl. lead the way!

PATH
Intl. Asks a Vet Your Questions
|
|
|
Dr.
Jim Little,
Technical Services
Veterinarian, Bayer HealthCare Animal Health
|
PATH Intl.
recently asked its members what questions they would ask a vet. We took
the top five questions and asked PATH Intl. sponsor Bayer HealthCare
Animal Health for answers.
The five questions are:
- What can
be done to reduce stress in program horses?
- With
enough rest time, will lameness go away on its own?
- Do you
have any suggestions for how to keep weight on an aging horse in
the winter besides soaked beet pulp and/or alfalfa cubes?
- How can
you tell if a horse just has bad behavior or if its bad behavior
is being caused by ulcers or health problems?
- What's
the one thing veterinarians wish most horse owners would do
differently?
Jim Little's answers. Thank you to our members for participating,
and a big thank you to Dr. Little and Bayer for offering their
expertise!

Equine
Tip From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
|
|
Correction:
Last week's Equine Welfare Tip article suggested that ESMHL
is an activity at PATH Intl. Centers. ESMHL is a person certified as a
PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. The term in
the article should have been equine-assisted learning (EAL), which is a
PATH Intl. recognized activity at many PATH Intl. Centers. We apologize
for any confusion.
Novelty in
Programming Can Help Prevent Equine Burnout
By Jayna Wekenman,
PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee member
Burnout and sour conditions of equines are a common concern in
equine-assisted activities and therapies and other programs working with
equines. One reason for burnout may be consistent under-stimulation.
Offering novelty in programming invites a different experience for
equines, participants and programs. Read more.
