Equine
Tip From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
|
|
Equine
De-Worming
Kristin Mason of the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
received an update recently on deworming protocols from Dr. Steffanie
Burk, Visiting Assistant Professor at Otterbein University that she
wanted to pass along:
"Rotational deworming is no longer being recommended by
AAEP because it is thought to promote anthelmintic resistance. AAEP came
out with new parasite control guidelines, but since updating their
website the guidelines aren't easy to find. Click here to download the
AAEP Parasite Control Guidelines.
"For mature horses, AAEP now advocates selective deworming using
fecal egg count results."
